Clips vs. Channels or Both 2018-05-30T14:20:01+00:00

Clips, Channels or Both

When are clips used vs u-channels and what are the ramifications.

Clips or u-channels are incorporated into a frameless shower enclosure where the glass meets a wall, curb or ceiling. Decisions regarding the use of clips vs. u-channels or a combination of both are mostly esthetics and preference.

What is a Header and When Do I Need One? 2018-05-23T07:02:17+00:00
How wide should our glass shower door be? 2018-01-06T12:48:29+00:00

Most folks ask for a wider frameless shower door rather than a narrower one. Many of our competitors usually offer a stock 24″ wide shower doors and charge you more for a wider one. In many cases this is because they are shipping them from China by the container load. The problem with this is that China does not have the same tempering standards that we have in the USA and the glass from China has a high rate of exploding after installation. Another consideration is that most don’t find 24″ to be a comfortable width and will pay more for a wider frameless shower door.

At Absolute Shower Doors we default to 28″ for a comfortable width. If another width is desired, we can usually design you your frameless shower door to any reasonable width for the same price. One exception would be is if the glass is heavier than the hinges will safely handle. In this case the price may go up slightly to up grade the hinges.

Feel free to give us a call with any other questions you may have.

How high should the shower door or enclosure be? 2018-01-06T12:47:52+00:00

If you don’t have any thoughts on the height of your new frameless shower door we will usually suggest 72″ if it is a shower stall and 60″ if it is on a bath tub. Typically though, when one of our design frameless shower door specialist’s come to your home to take final laser measurements they often find a height that is thoughtful to the aesthetics of the room. After all, most of our clients are just completing a renovation and put a lot of thought, time and investment into their bathroom, so you want to put the same consideration into the focal point…the frameless shower door enclosure. Many times it is simply hitting a tile grout joint or center of a tile if you have large tiles. The height of your ceiling and air space for ventilation (6″ min.) above your glass shower door enclosure should also be a factor if it’s not a steam sauna. Hope this is helpful, feel free to give us a call if you need any more tips!

When do we call Absolute Shower Doors to come and measure? 2018-01-06T12:45:01+00:00

It’s always a good idea to call us and stop into one of our showrooms as soon as you know you are planning your bathroom project.

Naturally everyone completing their bathroom project with a new frameless shower door or enclosure is excited to put the focal point in place and finish the project. The time to call us for your laser measurement is after all tile work is complete. Sometimes we get to a job to measure and find that the marble that caps the curb or buttress wall is in place but not fixed in place yet.

Keep in mind that we do exact “laser measurements” to be precise. This precision allows us to design and engineer your new frameless shower door. If your material is in place but not yet installed, it defeats the purpose of taking perfect measurements because they are likely to change even if just a little. Remember, we are measuring to the 1/32 of an inch. It is imperative in most cases that “everything” pertaining to the area around your shower enclosure is complete.
